Coaching

Volunteers Needed!

All of our coaches are volunteers across all divisions and ages. We’re always looking for volunteer coaches. Volunteers coach their own child’s team! Having more coaches on the field to help the players is always beneficial.

Ideally, we hope to have 2 to 3 coaches per team each season!

There are head coaching positions and assistant coaching positions.

How Can I Volunteer?

It’s really easy to volunteer! When you sign up your child for a program, the registration form asks if you are interested in volunteering! You can fill out the information there.

Or, you can email lunenburgyouthbaseballsoftball@gmail.com and let us know you want to coach. We’ll ask for some information, such as who your child is and whether or not you are familiar with the game!

We also do a background check on all volunteers.

How Much Time Does It Take To Coach?

There are 1 to 2 practices per week, and about 1 game per week. Practices run between an hour and an hour and a half and games can be about 2 hours.

Head coaches tend to spend time off the feel prepping for the upcoming practices in order to teach the kids specific skills based on what they saw as gaps in the last game or practice. For instance, a head coach might plan a practice around throwing out at first if their team had some missed opportunities in the last game where that could have helped.

Head coaches also plan batting and fielding lineups for games.

Do I Need To Know Baseball/Softball To Coach?

No matter what, we’re here to help. We have training lessons and coaching information that can teach you the information you’ll need to make sure the kids stay safe, have fun, and are learning the game.

For the younger divisions, such as TBall and Instructional, knowledge of the game isn’t strictly necessary!

For the older divisions, such as minors and majors, it’s ideal to have at least a head coach who understands the game. However, we’ve seen success where assistant coaches with less experience can work closely with the head coaches to create a great team.

We’ve created coaching expectations for each division! You can read about those expectations and get a sense of what will be required to coach. (hint: it’s really fun, rewarding, and easier than you think.
